The Dog House Slot Overview

Dogs are man’s best friend, and the four friendly canines that populate this cheerful slot will quickly become firm pals. Just like our four-legged companions, The Dog House slot is a highly volatile casino game that can be docile one minute and barking mad the next.

The Dog House slot might look like the kind of cutesy game that commuters play on the train on the way to work. But, looks can be deceiving. Those four dogs might be placid when the game loads, but they can also bark, and bite. Pragmatic Play has gone with a simplistic game system which works well for providing tantalising wins using multipliers, wilds, and free spins.

The Dog House slot will appeal to dog lovers everywhere, but anyone looking for a high variance video slot with big payout opportunities will appreciate this game. Like owning a real pet, it can be a frustrating experience at times, but when everything is going well, an extremely rewarding one too.

Vital stats

Pragmatic Play has gone with a simple set up of 3 rows, 5 reels, and 20 pay lines. Five out of five bolts of lightning let the player know that this is a max variance game. It means that wins may come less often, but they can arrive big! This is massively helped by sticky wilds which land with the enthusiasm of Fido finding his long lost bone. An above-average RTP rating of 96.51% also assists.

Players have a ton of control over how they wish to wager, setting the number of coins per line from 1 – 10 and coin values from 0.01 – 0.50. This gives total bet values from 0.20 coins up to 100 coins per spin.

Bright lights and doggie themes

The Dog House slot machine is bright, loud, and jovial at first glance. The reels are set in the backyard of a leafy suburban address, complete with ivy, a white picket fence, and well-manicured lawns. A pleasant soundtrack accompanies this picture of domestic bliss, with barking dogs punctuating the tranquillity.

It’s relaxed, chipper, and a great environment for spinning reels. The overly saccharine look and feel may put some hardened gamers off at first but give it a chance because lurking below the candy-coated exterior lurks the beast within.

At the lower end of the pay table are the classic card symbols 10, J, Q, K, A. These are completely standard without the slightest effort to inject some of the themes into them which is a shame. When it comes to value, three of a kind payout 0.1x – 2.5x the stake, and five of a kind will pay out 1.25x – 2.5x the stake. Not exactly the juiciest bone there.

Slightly better returns can be had from the mid-level symbols – the collar and the bone. Three of these are worth 0.4x and 0.6x, up to five of a kind for 5x and 7.5x respectively.

Leave it to our furry friends to provide the biggest payouts during the base game. The value of these adorable wee guys starts with the sleepy dachshund (1x, 2x, 10x), the wide-eyed pug (1.25x, 3x, 15x), the snooty Shih Tzu (1.75x, 5x, 25x), and finally the friendly Rottweiler (2.5x, 7.5x, 37.5x). Each one has a personality that is all of their own.

The dog house

Spending time in the dog house is usually a bad thing. It means you’ve done something to offend your better half and it’s time to pay the consequences. Here though, the dog house is a good thing, and for once it can actually pay you.

The dog house can land on the middle three reels and comes with a multiplier of either x2 or x3. If it lands as part of a winning combination, the multiplier comes into play, and if more than one is part of the combo, then the multipliers are added up to a maximum of x9.

Wilds are fantastic to land during the base game, but during the bonus game these puppies take on a life of their own.

Give me paw

The blindingly bright pink and golden paw is the bonus symbol. It appears on reels 1, 3, and 5, and three will trigger the free spins round as well as pay out 5x the total bet.

This round starts with a 3×3 grid spin which reveals a random number on each cell. The resulting total of all of these numbers is the number of free spins that are awarded, 9 at least and 27 at the most. Then, the canine frenzy begins!

What makes this part of the game such a raging success is the wild symbol. The wild appears on the middle three rows again, but it is now sticky and will remain in place for the remainder of the free spins.

What any dog owner (or profit hunter) wants now is the Rottweilers on the 1st and 5th reels, with the middle reels covered in wilds with maxed out multipliers. Land this and you are looking at some insane wins! The only slight downside is that the free spins cannot be retriggered.

What makes The Dog House slot so special

There is no doubt that The Dog House is a special slot. Its four canine heroes provide bags of character, and the feel-good factor is off the chart. Its unashamedly upbeat positivity instantly rubs off on you making you want to play.

If you are in the market for a high variance slot then definitely consider giving The Dog House a whirl. With its tremendous multiplying potential and sticky wilds during the free spins, mega wins are just across the neighbours’ fence. And if the lucrative Rottweiler happens to be in then so much the better!

Another factor in The Dog House’s success is its simplicity. We do like an intricate game, but sometimes it’s great to kick back with a simple slot and have a blast. The Dog House combines this effortless simplicity with a laid back charm that is just too good to resist.

Pragmatic Play continues its strategy for the aggressive release of their slots. Week after week, a new slot comes out from them to please the slots enthusiast audiences. Overall, their slots have been of excellent quality, and quite a lot of them do show at the top of the most popular slots lists on online casinos. Will the same account to their upcoming release The Dog House? Well, we’re about to find that out in this The Dog House slot review.

The Dog House Slot

At first glance, the game looks pretty generic, as usual for Pragmatic Play slots. Within the massive dog house, we see a bunch of dogs and their various accessories in the place of symbols. Though I have to admit, the soundtrack is quite goofy, especially in the bonus game. The design for the game, in general, is quite laidback, comedic and cartoonish. But these design component do not make any distractions from the core of the game.

Now, there’s a total of 11 symbols – four high value, two medium value, and five low value. On top of that, there’s also the multiplier wild symbol, which we will get to a bit and the scatter symbol. The premiums are related to dogs, there’s bones, a quartet of dogs and a Doberman, which is the best paying symbol and will award 37.5 times your stake if you hit it on a payline. Other than that, The Dog House slot has the Pragmatic standard five-by-three grid layout with 20 fixed paylines. Additionally, this game is of high volatility but not the highest of volatility out there. With an RTP of 96,51% and the maximum win, potential is set to 6750X, The Dog House slot positions somewhere in the mid-to-high volatility range in actuality. Also, the bet size ranges from €0.20 to €100.

The Dog House Slot Review: Features

A core component within The Dog House slot is the Multiplier Wilds feature. The multipliers are set at either 2X or 3X. Moreover, they may only land on reel2, 3 and 4. The wilds show up at random, both in the base game and the free spins bonus game. The multiplier applies to all wins that the wilds are connected to.

Additionally, if there is more than one multiplier wild in a winning combination, the multipliers are summed up. While if they were multiplied, they would be far more impressive, as is the case for Jammin’ Jars. But the summing of multipliers is absolutely reasonable for a slot like this.

Now, the bonus may seem a slight bit more exciting than the base game. The free spins can be triggered by collecting the jewel symbol on reel 1, 3 and 5. After that, the player is shown nine separate barrels containing options of either one, two or three free spins. Then, a dog spins the barrels away, each stopping one by one to finally determine the total amount of free spins accumulated. These can range from 9 and up to 27 free spins. Also, this is entirely random and is by no means a spin gamble feature. Perhaps Pragmatic Play was trying to do their twist of the popular free spins gamble features.

The bonus itself incorporates an additional twist to the multiplier wilds. During the free spins, the multiplier wilds are sticky. That means that any wilds that do appear during the free spins remain sticky for the remainder of the bonus. If they pile up one after the other, as seen in the picture above, they can result in some pretty crazy wins. Overall, this is a pretty decent bonus.

To wrap it up, The Dog House has potential to it. We see a fair amount of playability in the game. Indeed, Pragmatic Play games tend to be quite repetitive in their design. Same is the case for The Dog House slot. So, not sure how long can Pragmatic Play ride this train before having actually to dig into the trend pool.

Nonetheless, when it comes to this specific slot – it’s alright. The game overall is straightforward, similar to Extra Juicy. Not a lot of innovation going on here but the volatility seems entirely fair, and so does the maximum win potential. The Dog House slot is rather far away from its’ release – 5th of May 2019. But definitely check out other Pragmatic Play slots until then, such as Wild Gladiator or Extra Juicy.
